White Out those Shoes!

Dear friend,

Hi! It is moi, Mel. It's been some time since I last wrote to you and I want to start by apologizing for my inactivity this past month. I've been caught up with the ups and downs of life, trying to make ends meet.

I've recently graduated from fashion school and now I'm fervently looking for a position to start my career, but like everything in life, things don't go the exact way you plan them to. It seems very simple. Study, graduate, and a job will magically present itself, right? Right? RIGHT?

An opportunity is out there. You just have to be diligent, look for it, and grab it when you find it, not just wait for it to land on your hands. You must take the first step and make it happen. A lesson I'm learning and applying to my own self.

So, for all my fellow graduates, I want to encourage all of you and wish you good luck on your job hunt! Continue to dream big and never give up! You can and you will!

With that said, back to the main topic of this letter.
I've always loved purses. It was purses over shoes. ALWAYS.
But something happened this summer. I've been officially converted into a shoe aficionado and I have to emotionally detach myself from buying eight pairs of shoes every week.

What happened is that white shoes happened...
My closet is almost monochromatic. Black, gray, white, blue are the most prominent colors and, to a person like me, white shoes called out like french fries call out when you've not eaten all day.
Out of the infinite number of styles in the market, I picked my TOP 4 most-coveted-but-def-out-of-my-budget shoes and I would love to share them with you!

Here we go.

1. BIRKENSTOCK - ARIZONA

Easy, laid-back, and comfortable, birkenstocks make any outfit much more casual and digestible. They go with both trimmed pants and boyfriend jeans, oversized blazers and leather jackets. They are great for weekends walks and ideal for those I-didn't-try-too-hard looks.

2. ADIDAS ORIGINALS - SUPERSTAR

I'm a pretty tall gal and, consequently, don't wear heels often. I've made myself at home with sneakers and flats (as you can already tell by the birks), so my next selection is a pair of Adidas. I used to buy Superstar sneakers pair after pair back in middle school. They were my favorite AND super trendy back in the late 90s. Sadly, I've stopped wearing them some reason. I'm back, though, and I have rekindled my love this summer. Comfortable, clean, yet kinda retro and hip, Adidas Superstars are a classic I want to add once again to my very limited shoe collection.

3. MIU MIU - METAL CAP TOE SKATE SNEAKER

I like me a chic pair of slip-ons, given the fact that I'm all about looking put together without trying too hard. I spotted this pair of Miu Miu beauties on my last visit to Nordstrom and it was those rare love-at-first-sight moments. The silver toe cap gives these comfy sneakers an instant "facelift" and you can dress them up or down to your liking. Versatile, feminine, comfortable, and super chic, these sneakers deserve five gold stars!

4. JEFFREY CAMPBELL - SCULLY PLATFORM

Finally a pair of heels! Platform heels, that is. These Jeffrey Campbells are not only punk rock, but total attention grabbers, too. It is like a whole package deal. You get the height without the pain and the attention without the crazy. The ankle strap gives you an extra touch of femininity and the rough bottom, a sexy toughness. Jeffrey Campbell nailed it once again.

I hope that this letter was as fun and shopping instigating as it was for me.
Try out some white shoes yourself this summer and let me know if you see any other pair that we can drool over together!

Until next time!

Mel.

With love

Dear friend,

Hi there. It is moi, Mel. Hope all is well on your side of the globe wherever that may be. I'm writing to you from the bright city of Los Angeles sitting in a cozy cafe, sipping on ice-cold water, and trying to effectively commemorate our first encounter. I wanted to make our meeting via both of our computer screens somewhat special and memorable, but my creativity is failing me and I hope it will rekindle soon enough. I just could not wait another day to write to you.

Words like new, first, beginning, start, all evoke some kind of hopeful yet scary emotions. It is exciting to know that the past is just a bygone story and that the future holds unknown surprises. It is also refreshing to know that with new beginnings, we start with a clean slate, a white canvas, that gives us the freedom to play with new colors and designs. But, at the same time, that uncertainty makes us all feel a little uneasy.

All negativity put aside, however, I jump into the wagon of the "blogging" world and strive to share with you everything that falls nothing short of inspiration, passion, and love to my individual, minute self. I would love to take you with me on this stylish journey of fashion and to spark new hopes and dreams that consist of oversized shirts and dirty chucks.

I will leave you with some words of none other than the most highly respected stylist Grace Coddington with hopes that I will meet with you again.

Cheers,

Mel.
